NUMBERS UPDATE:

A month out from our trip we can reveal that our numbers will be smaller than last time, particularly. Indications are that we will have 35 vehicles and about 100 people which should be great and will fit in with our theme of ‘mateship.’ For those who went away with us in 2008 you will remember there were 50-plus vehicles and 150 people and this created some issues with food and the like. Event director Brett McCarthy and team reckon 2010 will be one of the best and will give everyone the opportunity to get to know everyone much better. One wag emailed that the smaller numbers will mean longer showers. That’s got to be good.

A MESSAGE FROM THE ROUTE DIRECTOR: Macca

G’Day everyone.

Well, not long to go until DOB 2010. With the closing date now passed us it is the time to make your intentions clear with a completed entry form and a cheque for $650.00 to secure your position. Not many positions are left and as stated in earlier correspondence we have reduced the number of vehicles we will be taking. This like all trips will be exciting and we will be taking you into country that Destination Outback has not seen before. Great pubs to visit, great camp fires to be had, great experiences and most of all great company along the way.

Look forward to seeing you all in White Cliffs.

ENTRY FORMS AND CREW DETAILS

We thank those people who have submitted entry forms for our exciting trip in August, but we feel there are many others who have been thinking about coming along but haven’t yet gone to the next step and downloaded an entry form and lodged a deposit. We would urge you to make haste and

post your entry and deposit cheque as soon as possible. For those who have entered with some details, we would like you to update details of your crew as soon as possible. That follow up information can be made via e-mail to event secretary Andrew Graham at amg@pea*****es.com. As

far as finances are concerned, event treasurer Peter Debus (peter.debus@baaa.com.au OR pdebus@principlefocus.com.au). It is important that intending participants remember that our vehicle number limit this year is 40 – already we are half-way to that target. You will also notice on the entry form that we are offering a free event shirt, but we need your size asap.

Destination Outback 2008It came as no surprise that Destination Outback 2008 was again a success, a project headed by Brett McCarthy and an enthusiastic support team.This group tasted the event with a route survey, then it was all hands on deck to get the event up and running.This was event 10 in the Destination Outback ‘series' and lived up to all expectations.

2009 DO Reunion in Sydney

Hi Outbackers, The Sydney outbackers invite you attend a DO reunion, to relive DO2008 & get excited about the 2010 event. - starting in White Cliffs (NSW) thru Flinders Rangers & ending in Coober Pedy (SA). This also gives great opportunity to expand trip before/after to add on other side trips with family etc. We plan to meet at Dave Gazzoli's Bar(The Aurora Bar) in Sydney on Saturday 15th August 2009 at 7.00pm. Dave was on DO 2002 & 2004 & had the Claredon Hotel in Newcastle. There will be $50 a head cover charge for finger food & a DO donation. Pls email Dave at dave@aurorabar.com.au or ph 9241 1911 (or myself) if you are coming, so we can organise the numbers for catering. Dave will need to know by a the week before. DO Recognised on McGrath Foundation Website

G’ Day Outbackers,

The Rotary Club of Dubbo South Destination Outback 2008 donation to Glenn McGrath has been included on the McGrath Foundation website for their fantastic contribution to the foundation.
Glenn McGrath also extended his praise towards the Destination Outback Trekkers who certainly knocked him for a “SIX” when we all called into his property “Woncobra Station” for lunch and we had the rear and privilaged opportunity to meet and talk with Glenn and his Family on day 1 before heading off to Hungerford for our overnight stop. This was written in an article in the Sun Herald (17-8-08) under the heading “Learning to live without Jane”.
The article read:
"When I was on the property [after Jane's death], Rotary were holding a fund-raising rally from Brewarrina to Nyngan and they stopped off at the property for a barbecue lunch.
"It raised $17,000 for the foundation. It meant a lot."

Destination Outback 2008 Itinerary

Friday 8th August - Saturday 16th August 2008

You asked for it! So we start in the outback visiting some of the most wonderful places, camping at unique locations, via picturesque tracks, enjoying memorable cuisine with lots of entertainment thrown in. So here it is: the “Best of the Best”! and all for the benefit of the underprivileged and less fortunate mainly from the rural and remote communities through which we will travel.
Its Friday the 8th day of the 8th month 2008, and we make our way to the historic town of Brewarrina, NSW to re-unite for another Destination Outback. Even before we depart, you will be taken back in time when the Culgoa Community Hall comes alive with talk of our past experiences and the expectations of the week that lies ahead.
To set the scene there is an old time hall, cricket pitch, 3 tennis courts under lights, a gymkhana ground, a disused race track and a well used bar, most of which have been recently renovated to coincide with the start of Destination Outback 2008. Scotty (Route Director)

Trekkers raise funds

Twenty years ago a couple of Dubbo rotarians took some mates on an adventure in the outback and instead of just a holiday, turned their epic trip into a fundraising drive for the community. Two decades on, Destination Outback-a Rotary Club of South Dubbo initiative- has raised over $1million for a number of charities and this year's adventure was no exception. The 155 intrepid explorers have returned from their 10 day expedition that covered about 2500km, and they raised almost 230 thousand dollars for a range of charities across Dubbo.
